Can i use thick cardboard for frame …
@Harsh Verma Certainly, though there are inherent issues; you need to ensure it’s as rigid as possible, and ideally cover it with something to resist humidity and water.
Coleman------great advice you offer here. you have given me the germ of an idea I am going to explore. It might be nice if you provided space for pictures of projects. I do believe we are starting on a new thing for us hobbyists. My son gave me an entry level drone/quadcopter and I have enjoyed it immensely. However, I now have en interest.-------------thanks----jb
@JOHN W Brown Certainly! The current tech does not allow much besides text in the comments section, so feel free to create a new post on letsmakerobots.com
can we use any other material other than carbon-fiber for body frame??
@chaitanya Of course. Find any rigid yet lightweight material - balsa wood and properly supported cardboard or even foam board can work (though break a lot easier). Vibrations in the frame are your enemy.
Can we use foam material to acheive highest payload fraction?
@Kota jayanth The original Parrot drone used rigid foam, but the core structure was still made of plastic. It’s difficult to get foam to be sufficiently stiff so as not to transmit vibration and hold everything solidly, but you can certainly try.
Do you think I could build the frame using a PVC cross and PVC pipe (thinwall) as it is much lighter, as Furniture PVC appears to be much stronger than the plumbing stuff. Something like this stuff here: https://formufit.com/collections/3-4-in-furniture-grade-pvc-pipe/products/3-4-thinwall-pvc-pipe-furniture-grade-5-ft
@Todd Furgess Don’t see why not. Check the weight of course since the lighter the better when it comes to multirotors.
I am building a transparent(fiber material) drone of smartphone size and with the capability of altitude hold. Can you please suggest some inputs regarding this.
@Vivek Hebbar Build a drone which has a frame of equal weight and dimensions, so you can select the right motors, propellers, ESC, battery, flight controller etc. and flight test it. Once you have successfully flown this version, you can design / build the prototype frame and either cannibalize the parts from the original, or if budget allows, purchase a new set for this second prototype.
What is the name of the plastic sheet sir l have to buy one
@Ravikumar There are many types of plastic sheets, though as indicated, you need one which does not easily flex (unless you take that into account in the design). We’ve found that even 3mm thick polycarbonate sheets flex quite a lot and are not ideal.
Your product promotes PVC usage. Don’t you think you should consider saving this planet instead of ruining it. Temperatures aren’t that good to fly drones in mars. Thanksssss <3
Please put a video on building spraying drone for agricultural purpose
