Have you heard of Nikola Tesla :)

Hi guys

Yesterday, I was searching this forum a little bit, and I see that the term ‘Tesla’ is mentioned few times. Tesla coils, Tesla cars, some users called their robots Tesla etc. But do you actually know who was Tesla? I hope that most of you does!

Anyway, Nikola Tesla is one of the most famous scientists in the world. He was Serbian inventor, like myself

He is responsible for dozens of inventions, and the most important one is AC current. If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have a lot of things today (like computers or robots). In Serbia, we are very proud of him (even more then of Novak Djokovic :D)! Around Serbia, and the world, there are dozens of monuments dedicated to him. And, the most important thing, his museum is located in Belgrade, capital of Serbia (https://nikolateslamuseum.org/). There you can find a lot of replicas of his inventions, a lot of his private stuff which you cannot find anywhere else in the world, and also an urn with his ashes!

Okay, he was a strange guy. He never got married. He predicted cellphones. He wanted free energy for everyone (okay, he also wanted to invent a Death Ray, but that was at the end of his career, when he got a little bit mad). As a lot of genius minds , he died poor and alone in a hotel room in USA. You can read more about everything here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla

Are there any famous scientists from your country that are somehow responsible for development of electronics, robotics etc? If yes, please share!

@igor_X Edison would’ve been unknown if it weren’t for Tesla!

yeah, “fighting” between two of them is also a very popular topic

Hey @igor_X !

Great topic idea. Certainly Tesla’s contribution is incredibly surprising. I didn’t know about its origins, nor about how popular it is in your country.

For my part, I thought I’d talk about: Humberto Fernández-Moran. He was a Venezuelan research scientist born in Venezuela, renowned for inventing the diamond knife or scalpel During his time in Sweden. This blade allows scientists around the world to make ultrafine cuts of biological tissues, even lunar samples, as happened when Fernández Morán participated in Nasa’s Apollo 11 project and significantly advancing the development of electromagnetic lenses for electron microscopy based on superconducting technology, and many other scientific contributions.

His contributions are not exactly in the area of robotics, but he strongly influenced the scientific community and its impact in the area of medicine.

I’m afraid we don’t have any monuments or resources that would allow us to appreciate his physical legacy. However, all Venezuelans are aware of his achievements and their impact on the world.

Great story @RoboCS

This is exactly why I was curious about scientists from other countries. I would never guess that a diamond knife was invented by a guy from Venezuela

Fighting for two of them would bring us in trouble.

It might bring us into trouble fighting for both of them.

I don’t know about any other famous scientists from electronics, robotics. Anyway this is a useful post

Question: Which (news) sites do you check, to follow breakthroughs, developments, updates, about free energy (as Nikola Tesla developed it)?

And yes, I’ve been reading about free energy for about 20 years. I also think that especially with the current energy scarcity here in Europe, it will now make a breakthrough; That there will be applications, in society, for everyone’s households.

A fun fact that many are unaware of is:

A unit of magnetism is called a Tesla also.
You can measure a Tesla Unit using a Hall Effect Sensor and an ADC.
The closer a magnet comes to the sensor, the higher the tesla unit reading will be.

The North pole of a magnet will measure positive tesla units.
The South pole of a magnet will measure in negative values of tesla units.

The unit of magnetism was named after him.
