Hey guys! Wonderful to have time to be back on the forums. Just got through my second week of college and so far I love it. I’ve joined the RIT robotics club and so far it’s incredible. It’s so nice to have a community of people who share in the same interests of me. They have some really awesome robots out here. The pride and joy of the club is a robot named A.M.O.S. III. It’s the robot that they enter in and international competition every year called the IGVC. The robot must go from GPS way point to GPS way point while avoiding obstacles. Really cool. They also compete in the firefighting challenge where a robot runs around a maze and must put out several flames in the shortest amount of time possible. I’m working on my own project with the help of the club and I’m making good progress in the design. I would be more than happy to post pictures and some websites if you guys are interested in any of the projects, whether it is my own project or it is one of the club robots. 8) Also I’d like to add if anyone would like to sponsor us / help / offer services / interact in any way with the club it is more than welcome. We are always looking for others interested in robotics, whether input on how to do something better or help us with exploring a new type of toy (we have a ton of micros and other things that nobody in the club is sure on how to work but i have seen topics for them on here multiple times)
Again, glad to be back and if you want pictures of the big shiny robot let me know and it will be done.

P.S. I will be posting my own project soon enough. I now have other who will guide me in programming in person so it really opens up possibilities for me
I will get the pictures and video up as soon as I can. Unfortunately the robotics lab is on the senior design floor and I don’t have access to that as I am a freshman . And until I get swipe access to the robotics lab I have to rely on members to get into the lab. I will try to get in again later today but no guarantees. The lab web cam is also down so I can’t see if there is anyone in there that can open the door for me
So you’re having fun at college? Glad to hear that. I wish I could join a robotics club. The one thing that stinks about he home schooled is that all robotics clubs in the area are held at High schools (I was fortunate enough to join a FIRST robotics team when I was younger).
Apparently the president of the club (Who is seeming more and more like a jackass, example. I’m in the process of trying to get a sponsorship from my old boss who would only sponsor the club for the reason of me being in it, scolded me in using the clubs name in asking him for sponsorship because only HE is the president and HE is the official face of the club and I should have just given him my bosses email after I said, do you want to sponsor this robot club I’m in but I digress) does not want me to post my personal pictures of the robot on the forum, so I will be posting several links to pictures and videos that are “approved”
So here they are. If you guys have any questions I will be more than happy to post information that you cannot find on the website.
Currently the robot looks quite different from all these, but the president says I can’t use my personal pictures to show to people (for some stupid reason)
I’ll try to have a talk with him so I can post more pictures of the robots and lab.

This this the link to the AMOS III page, scroll down he page and you will find the base of the robot as it was undergoing testing to see if the base chassis was functioning properly. There are no videos of it moving under it’s own will. Again, I’ll try to work on that.
There is a bunch of info on what the robot uses and stuff so explore that page if you want. Any questions left unanswered ask me and I will get it answered for you
Hey Jared welcome back. And consider the robotics club guy one introduction to university politics. Way too much scope to cover here but um it usually pivots around resources, money, space, and face time. Even if you manage to get your old employer to sponsor some activities it probably will not be allowed for your name/face to be on the cover of it, esp. if the president dude is some sort of college lifer. lol. Don’t sweat the small stuff… take what you want/enjoy and be cautiously generous at the most until you learn where and how to do more w/o crashing headlong into people. Some folks make an artform out of taking from the new guys.
Here is a .pdf about the AMOS III, although it appears to be from 2008 so not sure how up to date it is.
I decided to post the pictures in a new post. This is a link to the album with all my stuff in it. The images with the 4 wheel robot that looks hacked together is “The bastard child of carl”. The tall one with multiple decks is AMOS III
