Final year project

I want to prepare my final year project.....a year befor i had made a pole climber which worked on the hydraulics. I want to make a robot on the same concept. I mean automize it and make a new design but the thing is I dont know anything about automation or how to program or make give basic movements to robot. what to material to use ...absolutely nothing .please help me....

However, I’ll try to point you in the right direction-

  1. If you are an absolute beginner, first of all, you need to start making simple robots and then when you get the hang of it, go on to make more complex ones. The simplest robot can be found here- Start Here Robot . 
  2. Then, the next thing you need to decide is which µcontroller you’ll use. There are a lot of µcontrollers out there but the most popular ones are the Arduino and the Picaxe. Which µ you’ll use out of these 2 will be decided on which language you know (or don’t know). If you know basic, buy a Picaxe and start developing. If you know C/C++, buy an Arduino and start developing. If you know neither, first go here- Arduino Reference and see if you can understand the language that they use. If yes, then start with an Arduino, else go for the Picaxe (which many consider easier to learn). It has been asked a million times which µ is better than the other. In my opinion, all are equal. You just need to choose one that suits you.
  3. What you end up building will be decided by you and your interests. Look around our website for projects and pick one you like. Then think about what materials you’ll need to make it (most users have them listed for you). Then buy that stuff and make the first prototype. Then think on how you’ll improve it (you’ll be able to do this task if you started from step one and moved up in difficulty rather than jumping to your project straight). And finally, you’ll have an awesome project.

Those are the general guidelines. It may have to be tweaked to suit your conditions. Best of luck with your project!!
