Any news about the progress ???
Not much progress I’m afraid. I’ve got no excuses. Not sure when either. Sorry man.
kasunt,
I suspect that Jim has other projects in the works that will bring him a higher ROI (Return On Investment) than this one. Also, I suspect that the demand for a semi-custom front panel is very limited in relation to the development costs and expected profit.
Just a thought.

I apologize for the previous reply. I was having a bad day.
I have everything here in stock. Joysticks, sliders, keypads, cases. What I don’t have is a plan to move forward. I’m not sure what people want as far as a display, and what controls on the tray top panel. I’m perfectly happy to make several versions.
I started this thread hoping for some help as far as what people want, but have not received much feedback.
So yes I have been focusing on other things.
Hope today is going better!
You probably already heard enough from me on this subject , but so far I like the 4d systems stuff. My mostly done 2nd unit is using their 128x128 OLED, which is a lot of fun. My later experiments are with the larger Touch screen, which I keep meaning to get back to. For these setups I am using Arduino Megas (actually Seeeduino Mega), Need to get back to this and try out some different options.

Jim no pressure … there was no urgency on my part.
Perhaps you can list what you have on the site and people can choose their own screen ? Im just saying if it makes things easy for you.
I have the 4d screen and would be awesome to have a bigger one (The one kurte is playing with…)
On my side i will go with your gimbal, with an arduino mega (Already have it…)
For slider, i have some but would change to whatever you descide to include in the build…
Jim, I think what you suggested, about having several versions for the cases, and leaving the door open for the displays seems like a really good way to approach things. Makes things easier for you (hopefully!) and it also implies we can get our hands on the most difficult part (the nicely made pre-cut case) easily as well. Nothing wrong with customising our DIY with either a 128x128 OLED or a bigger one as we see fit.
I can’t wait to have enough coffers in my piggy bank to get the A-pod and put an FPV camera, and stream the video to my custom DIY; overlaying an OSD with compass headings, distance etc etc. Sigh
My 2cents worth
Sorry to be a pain but is there any progress in terms of making this available on the store ? The reason I ask is I’ve designed a 2 joystick control similar to what others have done around here but its hard to find a manufacturer that will cut plexiglass in the shape i want. And i dont have the tools to make the cuts either. I’d much rather get it from you if its readily available.
I would also like to know if this will become a real product or not. I’m very interested in seeing something like this become real.

I think we need to debate on what would be the ultimate remote, without being too complex at the same time.
Hi All
We started working on the same thing as you (@robotdude) and I hope you do not mind me sharing our journey and if you do let me know to remove it.
We used to build robots in our university years and used to build custom made remote controllers all the time. I think as clearly explained here, the problem is defining the ultimate remote controller. I think we have answered that question with Alpha V1. Partially what we are doing today is possible because of price reduction laser cutting and availability of laser cutting machines compare to the past. Also, we kind of started thinking about remote controller without bringing in any RC transmitter background and I think we managed to do a pretty good job. We picked a Arduino compatible atmega 2560 to build Alpha V1 mainly because we thought many users may still want to use 5 volt stuff. Then we picked a LCD screen that works in both graphical and text base at the same time so that the screen refresh rate won’t be affected and atmega 2560 would have enough time to take care of other things. It is not a color screen because this screen is way more visible under sunlight and it also matches our processor capabilities. Then we developed a lot of code to make adaption of different switches and input devices easy. Perhaps the hardest part was creating a menu system that make sense, especially considering that pretty much everything is configurable but we had to make sure the new users do not get lost in the menus. After hours of testing and implementation we have finally gotten to the sweet spot or at least we think we did.

@alirezasafdari - It would be nice to create your own topic, i think it will be awesome as a product
Will do that, but I have gotten a warning that I am spamming the forum (I have posted maximum of 3 times). I have stopped posting since then and asked them to give me permission to post. But I have not heard anything back.
