Hello, I am new to Raspberry Pi and just installed the Raspbian Jessie operating system on my sd card. I use a laptop and the laptop does not have a hdmi port but the docking staion does. Is there any reason that this would not work?
Use a monitor / TV
I may be wrong but think your docking station HDMI port is an OUTPUT, not an INPUT. You need a monitor to display your RPi HDMI output. You could also use a TV to test, most recent TV models have HDMI input.

Also worth thinking about, did you install the OS using win32diskimager or another method Raspi suggest?
I know some people who have just copied the ISO straight onto the SD card in explorer, which obviously won’t work.
