Big bot parts on the way :-)

I have no name for it yet, but I am building a bigger robot. Over a year ago before I even started on iGor I built a 10"x8.8"x12" aluminum frame box, intending for it to be the body of a robot. I think now after several smaller robots I'm ready to continue with that one. So here is an idea of what i am gonna do

locomotion:

2x12V lynxmotion motors with R/C truck tires and 2x desk chair type casters

power:

12v SLA battery

CPU:

either the guts of a laptop, or a mini-ITX motherboard , running WindowsXP - interface to sensors and hardware via a make controller or arduino

Sensors:

2x IR edge sensors, 1x sonar mounted on a panning servo for navigation, 1x webcam for vision

Communication:

802.11b/g via CPU

gasp
Neat, but for something like this you should definitely use Linux… Unless VB is easier. Still, it would be more flexible and awesome with Linux!

dent, you can’t compare Linux and VB… Linux is an operating system, and VB a programmation language!

Hey, when you don’t know what you’re talking about, anything is comparable!

Nice to see you posting again Buhatkj, haven’t seen you around for some time.:stuck_out_tongue: I’m anxious to see what you come up with! I’m actually a bit jealous already… and I’ve only read up on it!

Thought about making it a 4x4? 4 Lynx motors with 4 RC truck tires?

Ermm…
Ok, obviously you guys didn’t understand, I was just pointing out as an OS Linux would be a better choice in terms of flexibility and overhead. Sooo… Unless you would rather interface to the hardware with a VB program since maybe anything above VB would be too difficult, Linux would be a better choice than Windows. Okay?
