I was looking at eBay one night and saw a Maple Mini clone. It was under $5 so I took a chance. For any that don't know, the Maple boards are Arduino like uC's designed by Leaf Labs. They make ARM Cortex controller boards. This little board has the following short list specs:

  • MCU: STM32F103RCBT6, a 32-bit ARM Cortex M3 microprocessor
  • Clock Speed: 72 MHz
  • 128 KB Flash and 20 KB SRAM
  • 34 digital I/ pins (GPIOs)
  • 12 PWM pins at 16 bit resolution
  • 9 analog input (ADC) pins at 12 bit resolution
  • 2 SPI peripherals
  • 2 I2C peripherals
  • 3 USART (serial port) peripherals
  • 1 advanced and 3 general-purpose timers
  • Dedicated USB port for programming and communications
  • 3.3v

The board has a Nano like look and feel, just a bit larger.  There are several programming options, one the Leaf IDE which has a downloadable binary and source, but currently unsupported.  Though with the source you could take it up and make any mods you might need or want.  There is also a gnu toolchain you can install and use from the command line. The current DEVL Aruduino can be setup to use it, but I have not tried it as of yet.

As far as my testing has gone, I have used only the Leaf IDE. The IDE uses the libmaple library and a thin wiring wrapper. For me, this is a big plus and the libmaple code seems to be pretty good.  I plan to use on a small cutting board chassis bot soon and post back my findings.
