The US Navy's
Fire Scout helicopter robot detected a drug deal (cocaine) at sea during a test flight.
The Fire Scout has conducted tests since being based in the high seas aboard the American warship, the
USS McInerney.
It had completed testing when it saw that a suspicious boat was speeding during the night, suggesting that it was a drug traffic boat.
The robot helicopter followed and filmed the boat for nearly 3 hours before handing the boat over to the coast guard. 60 kg of cocaine was seized.
This is rather unusual and shows the potential applications of this type of unmanned helicopter.
