If I buy the Lynxmotion AL5D PLTW Robotic Arm - Assembled, do I also need the [Lynxmotion BotBoarduino Shield-Compatible Robot Controller]? Are any of the other accessories needed too?
Hello @rscherl,
Lynxmotion AL5D PLTW Robotic Arm - Assembled has SSC-32U USB Servo Controller for controlling servos so you wouldn’t need Lynxmotion BotBoarduino Shield-Compatible Robot Controller.
Also PLTW version has additional upgrades:
-1x FlowArm PLTW Software (on CD with licence printed on the invoice / packing slip)
-1x Medium duty wrist rotate with 1x HS-422 servo
-1x Servo extension cable
Hello @rscherl
The AL5D PLTW Robotic Arm - Assembled comes with the Lynxmotion SSC-32U servo controller so you don’t need to buy the BotBoarduino to control the robot. The BotBoarduino allows flexibility to add more features through Arduino sketches or C/C++, so it is useful if you want your robotic arm to be autonomous without having to add extra logic circuits to control it, or for use with a Lynxmotion PS2 wireless remote control. You can check this blog for more information about it. Having said that, the kit you mention comes with everything you need to start so unless you want those additional features you are good to go with the RB-Lyn-958.
Thanks for the information.
I’m trying to find the size of the base of the AL5D PLTW Robotic Arm. This would be the diameter of the circular base and also the the size of the SSC-32U Servo controller. I’m interested in mounting this on a robot base. Thankis.
Hi again @rscherl
The dimensions of the Base of the AL5D are:
- Center hole: 1.8cm diameter (four internal servo mounting points)
- Base Outside Diameter: 3 7/8",
- Base Inside Diameter: 3 11/16",
- Height: 1 13/16" (includes 5/32" rotating plate).
- “Feet”: protrude 1/2" from each side with 1/8" by 3/16" mounting holes
The dimensions of the SSC-32U Servo Controller are:
It was designed to have the same dimensions as the Lynxmotion BotBoarduino, the Lynxmotion SSC-32 (its predecessor), the Lynxmotion Bot Board and Bot Board 2 so they could be stacked.
You can find more information about the AL5D here
Thanks again!
