This was basically just a test to see if the rubber track set from Tamyia would fit on a Mr. Basic frame. It took about an 30 minutes while watching TV, to test out different lengths and hotgluing the orange drive-spoke-wheels-thingys onto the wheel shafts of the Mr. Basic.

Basic.

I then took an old mini 6V RC battery and the guts from an old $8.99 RC toy and attached it with strips.

I found an old Honda City toy car to scavenge for body and presto the thing was done.Since I work incredibly slow, this was done over 6-7 weeks...

I consider this build done, and the tracks has already come of for a new project, just waiting for some stuff from Claudia.

My conclusion is that these two kits work together great, and  I might recommend this instead of buying one wheeled kit plus one tracked kit (unless you need both at the same time). The motors on the Mr. Basic kit should run at about 4.5 volts, but they have now problem eating up to 9 volts without dying. They do tend to smell rather harsh after extensive high-speed use however...

  • Control method: RC toy parts
  • CPU: none
  • Power source: 6 volt NiCd RC pack
  • Target environment: indoor, streets, rough surfaces, wellgroomed lawns
