Our goal is to learn about robotics and programming as part of our homeschool lessons.  We decided to use kits to help get us up and running faster and get into the meat of programming rather than construction right away.

The parts we used are:

  • DFRobot Arduino 2WD Chasis
  • Optional encoder kit for both wheels
  • Parallax Ping))) sensor
  • Ping))) servo mount to allow scanning motion
  • Arduino
  • Arduino motor shield
  • Screw shield to allow access to all the pins covered up by the motor shield.

As we continue our journey, we'll update our progress in building, selecting more parts and programming through blog entries.

Simple kit robot platform to start learning about robotics.

  • Actuators / output devices: DFRobot 6V, 180rpm Micro DC Geared Motor with Back Shaft
  • Control method: autonomous
  • CPU: Arduino, ATmega328P
  • Power source: 6v in 5xAA Rechargable Batteries
  • Programming language: C++, C
  • Sensors / input devices: Parallax Ping)))
  • Target environment: indoor
