Kojiro the humanoid with a skeleton

Posted on 04/03/2010 by vabry in Humanoids
Kojiro Kojiro is a humanoid robot developed at the University of Tokyo in Japan (JSK Robotics Lab). Its characteristic is that it tries to replicate the movements of a human by imitating the functioning of the human skeleton, muscles and tendons. On one side this robot has things in common with the ECCE humanoid cyclop presented yesterday, but Kojiro goes even farther. It has a flexible spine like a human being and so it can turn its torso or bend over to pick up objects. Kojiro uses a musculoskeletal structure that controls all of its movements. The prototype uses light DC motors that pull "cables", similar to our tendons and muscles. Watch Kojiro, the humanoid, in action in the demonstration video below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3TGMjJLOl8 via
