That doesn’t give someone the right to straight up copy a product and start selling it as their own.
Patenting the SES brackets would be a waste of time. In my opinion. You could patent the idea, but to patent some bent aluminum with holes drilled in it. Good luck with that.
And patenting would only cover you where ever you got the patent for. Be it Canada, US, etc. To patent something worldwide, not something I would even want to consider. Being the reason why most clones come from China. Ever try to get a patent in China? Read up about it.
Jim has his reputation to back him. And instead of copying Jim’s products and trying to pass them off as his own, he should have because a distributer or possibly, I don’t know, came up with his own idea. Maybe invented something original? Made the brackets look a little bit more different?
This is a fairly typical scenario and it’s a shame but like I said, replication is the greatest form of flattery. No one copies crap.
An interesting observation:
A banner at the bottom of their web page proclaims them to be a member of the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s Association of the Philippines. Looking at the OEMAP website’s member list, there is nothing to indicate that they are actually a member of that organization (no company name, phone number, or email matches, etc.).
Thanks for the heads up on this. I’ve seen it before, I’m not worried about them. Their brackets seem to be much thinner than mine, and they don’t use ball bearings. The only thing I don’t agree with is the idea that this is acceptable because of international shipping costs. Ridiculous, that’s why we have distributors…
The idea is that someone might buy from them under the impression that they are the creators and sole providers of these brackets, not realizing they are cheaper copies.
If someone posted a robot they built with them in a thread and says how crappy and thin they are and how their robot just flops around, someone who recognizes them as SES “type” brackets might say,“Those are lynxmotion SES brackets”. Now the thread is abut how crappy the SES Brackets are from lynxmotion. Which sucks since they are just rip-offs of the real deal.
Not a huge impact on the company but not exactly something you want either.
Well, I know everyone on this thread realizes the kind of quality Jim puts out. It is top knotch quality and we all know Jim is not a junk dealer like these e-gizmo clowns.
What the h*ll is PHP? Is that phillipino peso?
I know, perhaps, but it’s obvious when you look at the finish of the product that these are cheap, “poor-man’s” brackets… Since it’s an open-discussion forum, we can all “audit” the quality and finish of the product as not-genuine LM parts if one were to post pics with these cheesy replicas.
The worst is, if someone comes onto these forums posting their bot made with these junk parts asking for help…
Did you guys notice the quality of those e-gizmos? They look like they were made from garbage material…
Oh well, I guess if it makes someone happy out there using these, more power to them, but we at lynxmotion.net community knows where to get REAL QUALITY stuff… Lynxmotion.com of course!
