Ultrasonic Sensors

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what most peoples choice was for an ultrasonic sensor?
The ones I can see to be popular in a reasonable price range are the PING))), the SRF04, and the SRF05.

Also, out of these, the SRF05 seems to have the best options(single or dual signal pin, 4m range, etc.) and it’s cheaper than the SRF04. So Jim, why don’t you supply these? I would have expected them to be a more popular option.

Anyway, I would like to know what sensor people like to use and why.

Thanks.

I agree… the SRF05’s are the “best bang for the buck”. They are easy to use and require only one pin.

I like the Maxbotix sonars, for several reasons:

Inexpensive ($30 or so)
Good range (20+")
Operates on 2v5-5v5 (so I can use them with gumstix and other low voltage chips as well).
Output is available as pulse width, analog and serial.
They’re tiny and don’t eat much.

There was a review of several different ultrasonic sensors in a recent Robot or Servo magazine, I can’t recall which. The charts and graphs were quite good.
