Trouble installing servo

I have a question about the Hitec hs-422 servo.

I recently recieved the BRAT kit and have had some trouble with putting the #2 tapping screws in the servo.
it seems the screws won’t go in, do I just force them in? I don’t want to break the horn though :frowning:

also, what does the tapping screw look like, just so I have the right one…

Hi and welcome,

Sometimes it does take a bit of force to get those screws to go in.
Have you looked at the tutorial: lynxmotion.com/images/html/build111.htm

The Brat assembly guide: lynxmotion.com/images/html/build104.htm
has pretty good pictures of the screws in steps 13 and 14.

Or here is the product ordering page for them: lynxmotion.com/Product.aspx? … egoryID=81 that shows a large photo of one.

Be advised the a generic self tapping screws like sold at hardware stores will probably not work. I bought some as spares only to find they wouldn’t work as replacement servo horn screws. You go to big hobby parts places like tower hobbies and buy the replacement screws for your specific servos. It appears that different servo makers use different types of servo horn screws. You may be able to force the screws you have, but I found mine were just too different for use (a bit larger then the origionals).

I did look at the tut but I still am not sure which screw to use.
It’s the BRAT combo Autonomous

I need a picture of the #2 tapping screws that come with the set. I might post the pictures of screws I have soon.

When the right screw is found, what you suggest I use to put the screw in?
oh, and do I screw it in, or push it in?

Are you talking about the screws that connect the servo horn to the servo shaft, or a screw that connects the servo horn to some robot part? My response was about the horn/shaft connection.

a screw that connects the horn a robot part. in this case it’s the “c” servo bracket I am trying to connect it to.

ok, I finally found what to do. Thanks for the help everyone.
