Hi hope your doing good.i ordered the ssc32 and hitec servos from website i got them all and i wanted to implement it on the robotic arm i have designed the software on vb 6 but the problem is that iam using serial port com1 (9 pins) when iam plugging it in the cable with the ssc32 and to my PC and then send the instructions it dont work because the servo uses + signals to move and when i checked my computer serial port through digital meter the voltage dropped down to negative 10 volts . can u please tell me wht should i do to over come the problem?. LED is on everythin working but its taking negative signals ,thats why it servo cant move can u please tell me thanks … is it a cable fault or …somthing else??
regards
Faysie
RS-232 can do +12 to -12v swings, it’s in the spec. The SSC-32 has a level converter for RS-232 (DB9 connector).
The servos are driven from a +6v rail on the board.
Shouldn’t be a problem!

thnx for the …reply really but can u explain wht did u mean by …converter .and how it will be fixed…
Sounds like you might have miss matched baud rates or are possibly using the wrong type of serial cable. The db9 connector on the board is made to normally see -10v when a signal is not being sent. Your self designed software may also be at fault. Have you tried using a terminal program to control the ssc32?
Whatever problem you are having, it’s not the serial ports signals being negative. The SSC-32 uses standard serial port drivers. If you are having a problem it’s something else. Lets start out with something easy… Does the green LED light up?
actually i tested all the steps for tht one by one …even bye Oscilloscope…every thing was workin fine …in software .and in ssc32 but only thing …is the out going are those negative volts from my serial com …which servos wont move due to it…2 things may be …one cable or …wht did u say about baud rate …u mean in my com 1 setting …software is on …vb 6 …by using mscom…tested tht also …but i dont knw whts the prob really…!!! …
yeah …LED light …do goess up…
ya know it wouldn’t hurt to download the lynxterm program and use it to test your serial connection to the ssc-32. it gives you a known quantity on both ends and if it works then you know it isn’t hardware or power or the connection. if it doesn’t work then you are troublshooting with a program most of the regulars here are familliar with.
HEy thanks everyone …i ran out of ideas…well finallly worked thnxx .for ur ideas and suggestion…regards
