I have six dof robotic card and a SSC-32 card , ı try to connect arm with using Rios(software) , my computer does support Serial port so ı used a usb converter but the software does not recognize my SSC-32 card and there is a message in the software that says SSC-32 Firmware Version is waiting. I look all the hardware connection and I do not see any mistake
please help me I am beginner in robotic arm what is the problems
please help me as soon as possible
thank you
Things to check
USB to Serial drivers installed ?
Jumper settings on the SSC-32 (Com settings matched)
SSC-32 Power jumpers set the way you need them.
Green Light on the SSC-32 on?
ur serial to usb may not be compatable as well. might want to check that out.
A proper USB->DB9 is a “null-modem” cable.
If that sounds Greek to you, post a link to the cable and we’ll give it a look-see.
if that is the case that might be why some are having the issue … there send and receive are backwards. They are needing one that is a streight through cable (nothing flipped).
basics of a null modem is to flip the send and receive lines so 2 computers can talk. Coputer A sends data to computer B Receive line and vis versa.
Erk, um, wha…
I’m not following your logic on this one. Sorry…
Uh, yeah, what Jim said.
A USB to RS-232 cable should present either a DB-9M (pins) in a DTE configuration, or a DB-9F (holes) in a DCE configuration. I have never seen one that did not have a DTE conector though, probably because it is what you normally get on the back of a PC. DCE is what you get on a modem and allows a straight pinned, that is 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, etc, cable with male on one end and female on the other to connect the PC to the modem.
A NULL modem cable/adapter allows two DTE or two DCE devices to communicate by reversing several of the signals, most notably TXD and RXD, and several of the handshake signals (but I forget the specifics.)
If you have a multimeter you can check the Tx output by connecting it betwen the Tx and ground pins on the serial connector and running a batch file like below on XP machines. If data is being sent you should see a very quick change on the voltage displayed on the meter.

@echo off
echo aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa >com1
that is because he is WAY off … Sorry Nick … it does happen once in a while.
Thanks a lot for all your intrests; I am a beginner so I need to ask another question I have switch on and off button and a 9v battery ; there is a jumber on SSC-32 which is VL=Vs when I pull the jumper the microcontroller takes energy from battery so I think I do not switch on the switch button for detect SSC-32 card to Rios for the begining can anyone give me any idea for this subject is it true ; and teher is any danger for servo thank you very much for your intrests
Erm…
Ah…
Uh…
It would please me greatly if everyone ignores any and all of my posts above this one.
I can only plead insanity/ignorance for that one.
I guess I should put “frequent lapses of low IQ levels” in my below disclaimer…
lol

Sorry my problem is connected with empty battery ı have two new battery but both of them was empty . So I have just taken a new one and
SSc-32 card is determined by pc
thank you everyone

Your telling us the simple solution would have been to have you charge your batteries?
I have to say I dont think I would have guessed that one.
…wow
it is a simple battery problem I tired everyting cahnge my cable install driver , and every trying I use different battery but 2 of my battery was empty so I was shocked my friend, that is life , but the important point is I leaened some neccessary knowledge , the most important one is about batteries
)))
9 volt battery? I like testing them with my tongue.

LOL Me too.
