SSC-32 Doesn't work

Hi,

I have recently bought the SSC-32 controller board. I added the power cable, 9v to VL and 7.2 Volt to VS1. The board’s green light is on.

I then ran Lynx Terminal. When I typed ver , it just doesn’t return any data back.

I am using the following usb to serial adapter sitecom.com/drivers_result.p … ter&CN-116

After sending the commands, the light still doesn’t turn of. What am i doing wrong? Some people in this newsgroup had the same problems as I am having. I followed their steps and it is still not working.

Any suggestions
Cheers
Richard

You might need to connect a multimeter to the Tx (pin 3) and the ground (pin 5) of the adapter and see if it has the proper output. There should be ~-10v across these pins. When a string of "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"s are sent to the com port, the meter should show ~+10v when the bytes are being sent. Of 4 different USB to serial adapters I’ve tried, only one actually operates as expected. There is another thread started on the board that is discussing issues with the USB to serial adapters.

Try typing in "ver " and then hit ENTER.
Yes, I mean the characters “v”, “e”, “r”, " ", “<”, “c”, and “>”
The “” is just a set of characters that the LynxTerm knows means “oh, I gotta put a carriage return in there”.

I’m assuming that you have the COM settings all correct?
If unsure, check the manual.
The jumper configuration on the board will determine the selected baud rate, but the rest of the settings should be 8 data bits, no parity, no flow control, and 1 stop bit.

If all that is right, then I’d suspect the USB->Serial, as well.
I can verify that this cable works:

If the LED never goes out, then it’s not receiving any useful data. Make sure both the SSC-32 and the terminal program is set for 115.2kbaud.
