SSC-32 and Brusshless Motors

Can the SSC-32 run Brushless motors?
If not, any thoughts on what I can use?

No not directly, the SSC-32 is just an intelligent servo/io controller without any “power” output stage. you would need something between the ssc-32 and the brushless motor to actually drive and commutate the motor. Give us a part number or more application information on the motor to get useful suggestions on particular brushless motor controllers that would be compatible with the ssc-32.

If you are using a brushless ESC hooked to the motor, then yes. The ssc-32 will provide the PWM signal to the R/C plug and the esc will control the motor according to the signal provided.

ESC i guess is the speed control the i have to get with the 3 phase motors.

PWM signal is a mystery to me.

as you can see there is quite a few things i will need to learn.

i have however decided to jump into the deep end and either swim or die trying.

You could just hook up a motor controller too Right?

Just so long as you are using a brushless controller. You will have trouble finding a decent controller for it if you are looking for forward/backwards control. Most Brushless controllers are designed for helis and planes, so they have no reversing. The R/C car Brushless esc’s are excellent but a motor/esc combo is around $300, for the cheap ones. And rarely can you purchase just the ESC. They are usually rated for over 300Amps though. But only to 12V max. Some only to 8.4V. Finding a Reversing brushless controller that can handle over 12V is very difficult, and expensive.

What are you using the motor for?
