I’m building a large round table, and I plan to have the inner ring be a recessed lasy susan. Something like the link, but with a recessed 4ft lazy susan as an “inner ring” that sits flush with the outer ring.
I would also like to motorize the Lazy Susan this and have it rotate at 0.5 - 1RPM. The rotating portion will be ~60-100lbs in weight with a 4ft diameter. The only other real design requirements are that it be silent, but variable speed and simplicity would also be nice.
The table will sit above a power outlet, so power is not a problem.
One option is to take the motor from a commercial display stand - something like the DynaPac IR-650. The problem with this approach is three-fold: (1) it costs about $1000; (2) it is not silent (quiet perhaps, but it still has the classic servo whrrrr); and (3) it is fixed speed.
What advice would folks have as to the best way to approach this?
Open to ideas? Anything simple and cheap that folks would recommend? Bonus points if it’s an “off the shelf” thing I can easy slot in, versus something that would require me hacking around with Arduinos or Pis (which I’ll do if it’s the best approach, but this feels like there should be a simpler way).
Thanks for any and all ideas!
