Here is a tutorial for using the Sparkfun Bluetooth wireless serial port with an SSC-32 and the SEQ program.

Hi Jim
I’m just going through the process of moving everything to Vista. Youir tutorial is pretty much how I did it about 8 or 9 months ago but now there are issues with Bluesoleil. Sparkfun dont have a license to use Bluesoleil under Vista so their dongles are not the ideal.
I have found a replacement
mobilefun.co.uk/product/15349.htm
It uses Broadcom( ex Widcomm) drivers under the Vista.
I have tested it against V1.02 of SEQ and it works fine. I will install V1.15 later and test against that. I have already raised an issue with Laurent regarding the Microsoft Bluetooth with SEQ. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
PaulP just notice me that he has open this thread so i will also report my problem here (same message under SSC32 forum) :
hello all,
i’m actually trying to use a bluesmirf module just received from sparkfun with SSC32. i am pairing with it successfully but with a belkin dongle (i was able to paire using pass 1234, couldn’t find any info on the pass to use), now i have 2 new COM PORT, COM3 & COM4…
Here is my problem, lynxterm 1.06 is not showing this port (instead 2 port labelled COM and not working). With lynxterm 1.05, it is working properly. When i connect at 9600 bauds, the led on bluesmirf board stop flashing green and a continuous red led appear, from what i read, it seems ok, but when i write “VER” in lynxterm, nothing happen, i can see SSC32 led flashing one time while pressing enter.
Can someone help me workaround this problem ?
Is it mandatory to use BlueSoleil software ? Can we use SPP under windows directly ?
Regards,
Cedric
Hi there,
all new versions of my softwares are using the COMPort component V3.1
which corrects some bugs from the V3.0…but…
It seems the previous V3.0 handles better Bluetooth and Vista !
Some bluetooth dongle drivers are not 100% compatible with Windows Vista…yet.
you should try to find an up to date driver first.
Anyway, we decided to return back to COMPort V3.0 to solve quickly this issue, it’s looking like drivers bugs + COMPort bugs + Vista Bugs results in “NO bug at all”…funny and frightening
I’m working on RIOS, SEQ, PowerPod and Lynxterm to return to COMPort V3.0, this will be done very shortly and put on the website as updates soon.
I hope it will still work when bluetooth drivers will be updated
at last…these 4 softwares are still not sold for Vista OS anyway even if we are trying to make them 100% compatible with it, your help is welcome
Thaks for your response,
As i have a desktop with XP SP2, I can tell you that I have the same problem with lynxterm 1.06, not showing the port number.
I have tryed to install BlueSoleil which is in “evaluation mode” for my dongle but it should work find. The sparkfun component is show “Firefly-667E”, not “Sparkfun” like in your tutorial picture (different version ?) … the virtual serial port seems to connect correctly because the led is red when connected.
I had setup the port and terminal correctly according to the tutorial, and when I send a VER command, I get nothing, just a quick flash on the SSC32 when pressing “enter” but nothing in return in lynxterm (currently using lynxterm 1.05 with SSC32 updated to 1.06.
I get the same problem using XP or Vista virtual com port directly.
Hope this will help, i’m waiting to get rid of this nasty db9 cable …
Regards,
Cedric
did you correctly set the Timeout values ?
Read interval = 0
Read Total Constant = 100
Read Total Multiplier = 10
try to get the Ver # in the Timeout form, increase the “Read Total Constant” by 50 steps till you get it.
Hi there,
can you check here to download Lynxterm V1.07 please
lynxmotion.com/Product.aspx?productID=567&CategoryID=15
this version should fix the COM port list issue with bluetooth dongle…
please let us know if it’s working, so i will correct other software, thanks
Just tried that
On my machine Vista with Bluetooth DOngle on Broadcom drivers, NOT MS DRIVERS… set for COM35 Outgoing and COM36 Incoming it worked fine, Identified and everything correct.
Seems like you have a solution, now to try for one on .NET…DOH
Paul
Good,
thanks for testing
i will include “old” COM port component version on all softwares.
Lynxterm is working also for me, but not the bluesmirf module.
Hope to get help from sparkfun, not working even under macOSX with Zterm, i get the red light but no response … I hate bluetooth …
It seems that the bluesmirf module is now provided configured at 115.2 kb … it takes me 2 weeks to find out … i thought you should add this to your tutorial, the support is poor with sparkfun !
We have requested and have been promised a couple of the new dongles that are now shipping. When we receive them we will update the tutorial. I’m sorry about the long delay from Sparkfun. We actually ordered the new dongles last week.
