I am looking for recommendations for a prop “robot” that I am making for a commercial. I need an rc base that I can use to drive the prop around the set. It would need to be strong and relatively quiet, ideally. My hope is to harness the base to a plywood dolly on casters, so that the mass of the robot will sit on the casters, I just need to base to push the prop around. I’ve been looking at steer skid control bases, like a treaded tank base, but I don’t know how to tell if they are strong enough.
Notes: the robots are going to be hollow plastic and as lightweight as I can make them. They are about 48" tall so the base can be fairly big. The studio floor will be smooth and should have no obstructions. Also, pls let me know if the attached pics are visible (they aren’t from my end…?)
Hello @DAZU and welcome to the RobotShop community,
How strong does it need to be? Do you have an idea of the weight of the prop?
Also, as you are planning on placing it under the prop (hiding it), how big can it be?
Maybe this platform could work for you?
Keep in mind that most of the rover kits are available in the Wheeled & Tracked Robots do not include the microcontroller, motor controller, or remote control. Let us know if you need help selecting that as well.
Also, pls let me know if the attached pics are visible (they aren’t from my end…?)
Yes, they are visible. And they look very interesting btw. I hope you’ll share the final prop here
Hi geraldinebc15, sorry, I just saw your response now! Thank you, I’m going to take a look at this platform tonight. And yes, I’ll likely need all the components to make it RC. Thanks again, very helpful! Cheers, DAZU
