Sabertooth rc heat sink

Hi
The black heat sink came off, looks like a small white dab of something was holding it. Sorry for not knowning the proper name for the substance. How would I re-attach this heat sink or do I need it. I run 2 of jims 12v gearmotors from it.

Thanks
Wayne

I know it’s a two part epoxy that they use. I don’t know if you should run it with the heat sink removed.

Kind of a late response, but Dimension Engineering (the makers of the Sabertooth motor controllers) has really fast tech support:

Thanks migs, never thought of that. Will do

Hrmh… I emailed them the link when I read this. Dunno what happened. I resent it. It was right around the time when they were without power for a week. :frowning:

The white stuff is Loctite 384. Its a thermally conductive repairable acrylic adhesive. “Repairable” also means “if you bang it just right it’ll pop off.”

Its a little bit spendy, about $25 for the smallest two-part kit you can get. It also has to be stored refrigerated.

McMaster Carr has it, part number 1700A402. You also need the activator. 1829A15

The black heatsink heatsinks the voltage regulator. From 12v, if you’re not drawing any power from the 5v output you’re probably okay to run without it.

Of course, if you send it in to us we’ll fix it up and send it back for free.

Sorry for the delay,
