Recommendation for a step motor controller with a limit switch

Hello! My first question here and I’ll have plenty more :slightly_smiling_face:. I need assistance choosing a step motor controller where I can turn the motor on wireless (it can be wired for now), allow it to rotate until it activates a limit switch. The limit switch turns off the motor and the motor shaft will manually be reset to its starting position to start the cycle over. Thank you.

Hi there,

Hmm… pretty interesting project.

You’re combining various basic concept and by identifying the section of your project, you’ll get there in no time.

1-Stepper motor
2-Controlling the stepper
3-Sending wireless command to the stepper controller
4-Using a limit switch
5-Limit switch sending a command to the microcontroller.

To choose your stepper, you must first identify your need, what speed, what torque, size of the shaft… Bipolar, Unipolar?
Check this section: https://www.robotshop.com/en/stepper-motors.html

Once you’ve chosen the right motor, go to the motor controller section and select the right one: https://www.robotshop.com/en/stepper-motor-controllers.html

For third part, you must define what is wireless. WiFi? Bluetooth? IR? RC?
Once you’ve made a choice, let me know and I can suggest.

Concerning the limit switch, here is the cheapest I could find in the RobotShop’s catalog https://www.robotshop.com/en/micro-contact-limit-switch.html

This is just a start, let me know how it goes and keep update of your progress!
Cheers!
