Photos of my new workbench

My brother’s friend built me my first workbench back when I was 16 years old and that bench lasted me 14 years before I decided to chop it up and build a new one. After 10 years of going without a work bench, I figure the time has come to build my own workbench for the first time.

I wanted a simple workbench that has plenty of surface area and is very solid. A bench that would resist rocking back and forth when sawing, sanding, etc… The workbench is 95% complete. I still need to buy another sheet of 3/4" particle board to place on top. The top piece will be 8’ long x 3’10" deep x 3/4 thick. There will be 6" overhang on each end for clamping things and 1" overhang on the front, flush at the back side so it can be butted up to the wall for a peg board later.

The board you see resting on top in the photos is just a scrap piece from the bottom shelf.

I also wanted a workbench for my milling machine for future projects.

Nice bench Mike!

Great work Mike, looking good!

It sounds reasonable to have some overhang on the top board also for avoiding that you leg/feet gets in conflict with the bottom rack.

Thanks Alan!

Zenta, after seeing all your skilled handy work, you have inspired me to do my best and take my time to get the best quality work possible. When it comes to wood working, I have never seemed to be able to make anything decent.

For too long I have gone without a decent work shop. Everything used to done at either my kitchen table, or at the computer desk. It’s time I start to form a decent workshop in the garage.

Dude! I want one for in my new home!!

I have a simple PDF drawing of the bench that I used and I tried posting it on the forums but it would not allow PDF files.

If interested, let me know And I can email it to you.

PDF is valid for the forum, but the size limit was set to 256kb. Beth just up’ed it to 1mb. Mike, all you had to do was tell us! :open_mouth:

Not really, you guys are so good, I didn’t even have to tell yaz. :stuck_out_tongue:

By the way I still get the error “extension PDF not allowed”. I zipped it up so that solved the problem.

The plans look good, when 'ya going to upload the wood? ;>)

Sorry, I wasn’t able to zip it up.

I’m looking into this. Don’t worry, I’ll beat the forum into submission asap. >:D

Ahaha. Forum beaten; problem solved. >:D

Although I’d added .pdf to the list of extensions the forum understands, I’d forgotten to mark it as an “allowed” extension. All ought to be well now.

Cool, thanks Beth!

Updated PDF document.

I removed the grid lines so you can see details more clearly, and I added a few more details.

Nice drawing! All the extra details help.
