My choice is the CH3-R hexapod… do you agree?
I need to know what else I need to start. I think the kit has already everything I need… but what about software. I have no programming knoweledge, so I think I require something “user-friendly”. What do you suggest?
SSC32 Sequencer?
Powerpod? (dos it fully work with SSC-32 controller?)
Microsoft Robotic Studio?
Do I need something more?
Ok, that’s all for today… many more questions will follow for sure!!!
Have a nice week.
Andrea
The CH3-R hexapod is one of the best documented kits we make. It is a complex project, but it’s actually very easy to build and operate. You don’t need the SSC-32 Sequencer or Robotic Studio. Powerpod is a program that actually writes the Basic Atom program for you. All you need to do is define the robot’s features, and how you want to use it, and click “create program”. Then you program the Basic Atom and it’s ready to go. And we are here to help if you have more questions. For now read these guides.
I’m going to add to this thread rather than start a new one. I’ve been lurking here for a long time and I’ve had my heart set on the CH3-R ever since I saw it in Robot Magazine. I was very mad at myself for missing the Halloween sale (by a few hours)!!!
Anyway, the only thing I am asking for for xmas is money to put towards a CH3-R and in preparation for that, I want to make sure I order all the right stuff. The product listing says “Everything is included except the Play Station game controller,” but it seems unclear about the battery. Compatible batteries are clearly listed, but does the “CH3-R Combo Kit” come with a battery holder or anything like that? If I want to use my own rechargeable AAs, should I look for a 2x2 holder or a 1x4 battery holder to fit in the chassis? How are others powering this kit?
Everything else seems pretty straight forward; I already have some old PS2 controllers I can use before I upgrade to the wireless ones. Is there anything else I’ll need to order with the combo kit that I’m overlooking? Thanks for the help!
Edit: Heh, forgot about the whole 1.2 vs. 1.5 volt thing for rechargeables. I guess it would be easier to just buy the NiMH packs, right?
Well the “AA” holder is a really bad idea! you can read lots of horror stories about the problems they create when you try to draw any amount of current from them right here on the forum.
We don’t include batteries because lots of people want to do their own thing. So no the batteries are not included. The battery packs we sell have no trouble delivering the required amount of current to the robot. Trust me, don’t skimp on batteries, you will be very “mad at yourself” in the long run if you do.
I hate to keep doing this, but I can’t guarantee the controller you have will work well with the code we are providing.
The 1.2 vs. 1.5 thing isn’t the issue. The current delivering capability is the issue. Hang in there, Hexapod Nirvana is close at hand!
Thanks for the quick reply! So it sounds like the best way for me to be a happy hexapod owner would be to buy the CH3-R Combo Kit + NiMH Battery Pack + Charger + “Approved” PS2 Controller; does that sound right?
Is that referring to a new hexapod model? Like the Phoenix maybe? I’ve been keeping my eye on that thread and I’m looking forward to it! However, I think the round platform of the CH3-R will better suit my plans insert evil laughter]. Maybe you’re just encouraging me to be patient in collecting all the right pieces. Thanks again for the help!
