I am very new at this and need help. I am trying to build a all-terraine chasie that is 2’ wide and 3.5’ long, that bends and twist in the middle. I am looking at using a vex turntable with a vex gear motor for the steering., and Lynxmotion Spur gear head motor for the drive motors at each end. Can those motors and a vex gear motor be controled with a RC controler that is digital 2.4G ??? Or… what do I need to get it to work? do you think I need to use something different? THANKS VERY MUCH FOR THE HELP!! Glenn
Thanks for the help, I have a rough draft of my project , I want to keep it as light as possible. The weight it has to carry is about 3Lb. I was going to use the sprockets and a gearmotor for searing, but the VEX turntable is so simple and easy to use, if it is strong enough. I could renforce the pivot in the turntable if the gears are strong enough. What is the easy way to control the servo motor, (stops on both sides so the servo motor will not self destuct)? Glenn
You would need an R/C motor controller such as the Sabertooth 2x12A R/C connected to the receiver. The VEX turntable is not motorized - you need to connect it to a VEX motor or VEX servo. The turntable is plastic and I’d be worried about it breaking under load in the orientation you would use it.
If you want an actuated center rotation, consider an all-metal power gearbox.
3 lbs should be fine for the turntable. The servo motor rotates 180 degrees, and with a large gear ratio, the final angle may be reduced to 30 degrees - which may be sufficient for your project. If you need a larger angle, you’ll need a VEX DC motor, and add two limit switches to the frame so your microcontroller can pick up when the frame can no longer be rotated.
