Registration is now open for the 2010 Central Illinois Robotics Bot Brawl. The competition will take place on March 6th at the LakeView Museum in Peoria, IL. Here’s a list of all the exciting events:
LEGO Sumo
Mini Sumo
3kg Sumo
Line Following
Line Maze
Antweights (1lb combat)
Beetleweights (3lb combat)
Best in Show
We’re also planning to host some Mech Warfare demonstration matches at our March 6th event. If anyone has a Mech of their own and would like to participate let me know and we’ll plan accordingly so everyone gets a chance to show off their work.
The upgraded arena will still include a trap door for combat robot matches and may include a second arena hazard as well. The arena can also be assembled in either an 8’ X 4’ or 8’ X 8’ configuration depending on our needs. The support structure is still a work in progress but we have many ideas for designs that utilize some of 80/20’s more unique modular components and connectors to enable collapsible assemblies.
This arena will also be used for Mech Warfare matches providing excellent visibility of all the action while preventing the Mech’s weapons from harming spectators. Miniature “buildings” and other obstacles will be added for Mech Warfare matches to create the simulated battlefield. For our March 6th event we plan to include Mech Warfare demonstrations but may consider hosting a full competition at future events if there is enough interest.
Be sure to mark your calenders for March 6th, 2010! Hope to see you there!
Just a reminder to everyone, the Central Illinois Robotics Bot Brawl is less than 2 months away! Don’t miss your chance to win some awesome prizes! Here’s a list of the available prizes we’ve collected so far thanks to the generous support of our sponsors:
This year’s event is sure to be our best yet with a brand-spanking new 8’ X 8’ arena, more robot classes, and Mech Warfare demos! Make sure to register as soon as possible on the Builders Database (buildersdb.com/view_bots.asp?eventid=303) to help us plan for the number of competitors. Unfortunately we’ll have to cancel a robot class if not enough competitors are registered so please register your robot right away!
Also, if you’re planning to compete in the Best In Show (circ.mtco.com/competitions/2010/rules/best_in_show) competition which does not require advanced registration, we’d still appreciate if you could let us know ahead of time what you’ll be bringing.
The Central Illinois Bot Brawl is now less than 1 month away! Register your entry right away for your chance to win some awesome prizes! You don’t need to have your robot completed now to register and we’d appreciate knowing a more accurate count of how many robots will be competing. We might be forced to drop a robot class if no one is registered online so make sure to enter your robot right away!
We’ve collected over $3,500 in prizes so far with more still coming. Here’s a complete listing of the prizes available to winning competitors and all audience members through random prize drawings and raffle prizes.
Also don’t miss you chance to see Mech Warfare demonstrations by James Frye of Lynxmotion and Andrew Alter of Trossen Robotics. These two will pit their BRAT Mechs against each other in our new 8’ X 8’ combat arena. The only other event hosting Mech Warfare matches is Robogames in San Fransisco so don’t miss this unique opportunity to see Mechs do battle here in the Midwest!
The new upgraded arena is ready for this Saturday! Take a look at the beautiful arena now before the robots have a chance to “break-in” the fresh paint job and brand new polycarbonate :-/
A huge thanks to Jim for sponsoring this upgrade! Don’t miss the competition this weekend to see the first combat and Mech Warfare matches in the new arena!
I rented a car and drove from Chicago to Wisconsin Dells, so I could have easily Drove to Peoria. Unfortunetly, I am back at YeeeHaww Texas so it aint gona happen.
When we were in Chicago, after being in the Sears Tower we went to a pizza place called Giordano’s and man, the cheese was so good, I was choking on the strings. You cant get this kind of pizze in Texas… no sir…
The 2010 Central Illinois Bot Brawl took place this past weekend and was a huge success! Over 25 competitors showed up with robots for the combat, line following, and sumo competitions as well as Mech Warfare demonstrations. Results, pictures, and video are being added to the 2010 event page here: circ.mtco.com/competitions/2010/
More pictures and videos will be added but the combat highlight video is now available. We had 5 antweights and 3 beetleweights compete with two of the beetle weights being multi-bots. They went head to head in our club’s brand new 8’ X 8’ arena.
Including a rather unorthodox last minute multibot.
It’s a very good thing that we had the new arena for this event. 5 robots would have been a tad cramped in the old “hallway” arena!
Hmmm… Do I see a trend in the RC combat robots that they showed? 8) It’s a pity they only used hits that looked a bit staged. The other guy was already flipped over!
Sorry for the delay but I’ve finally managed to edit and upload video of the Mech Warfare demos as well to Youtube and our club’s website. Video for the line following/maze and sumo competitions should also be uploaded within the next few weeks…hopefully
