Litter robot 3 Wasting Litter

I am using clay clumping litter. Recently if filling to the fill line, a lot of new litter is dumped during cleaning cycle.
So I can only fill to 2cmbelow the line which causes urine to stick to the rubber.
Definitely using much more litter than 2 months ago.
Can the speed of the clean cycle be reduced?

Hello @jhlb ,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Please provide us with your order number or a copy of the invoice.

We will need a video of the robot doing a full cleaning cycle so we can check the error you are having.

Awaiting your reply.

This image shows the Maximum amount of litter that I can load into the robot, any more added and the litter is dumped.

This video is a full clean cycle after a new refill to the level in the previous photo. The litter is retained well.

However, if the litter has been used by the cat, the clumps block the strainer which then dumps clean litter. This is due to the fact that the urine is absorbed but then sticks to the rubber causing a large flat clump.

As said, filling with more litter overcomes the sticky problem but only once as the good litter is dumped.

Hello @jhlb ,

Thank you for your reply.

The video only shows a perfectly normal cleaning cycle.

We will need to see the cycle when you are keeping the litter to the level indication and keep the litter spread even.

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

A further video will follow shortly once I have the opportunity to take it,
Regards,
JH

This image shows robot filled to JUST below fill line. No debris in there.
The litter is level and clean.

Cleaning cycle with litter at recommended fill line as in above still image.

This image shows litter level after cleaning cycle.

This image shows 0.75 kilo of new litter dumped into drawer black plastic liner.

Suggestions,

  1. reduce rotation speed of cleaning cycle phase 1.
  2. increase number of filter/strainer holes by 2 more rows

Hello @jhlb ,

Thank you for your reply.

The issue that you are having is due to the brand of litter you are using.

As you can see the litter has a lot of big grains which blocks the openings of the skimmer preventing the rest of the fine grain litter to get through.

We recommend changing the litter brand to another one with smaller grains.

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

I disagree.
This image shows the largest granule of litter that I can find in a 1kg sample. It is no more than 4mm wide in any direction. 99% of the granules are much smaller.
Also, I have been to my local Pets at Home branch and they stock 19 types of litter. The one I am using is the smallest granule size available.
Also noted is the size of the skimmer holes at 9.5mm x 9.5mm in a diamond shape.

As there was no problem with the litter dumping in the first 4 months or more of use, I have determined that the rubber liner has stretched and now requires more litter to reach the maximum fill line, thus causing litter to dump during the 1st stage of cleaning cycle.

I thank you for your attention,
J. Hanns.

Hello @jhlb ,

Thank you for your reply.

This is possible too.

We will discuss your issue with our repair department to reach a solution then get back to you.

Sincerely,

Hello again,

After discussing the issue, we can confirm that the problem is coming from the litter brand.

As you can see in the video, the litter doesn’t go through the skimmer on the way back, it pushes it and that’s because it’s heavier than needed.

Here’s a picture of a compatible light litter should look like:

Please try to change the litter brand as recommended and let us know if the issue persists.

Sincerely,

Thank you for your attention to this matter,
Regards,
JH.

You are welcome, let us know how it goes.

Take care!
