HSI-100 (?)

Has anyone seen the tidbit in the latest Robot Magazine (Spring 2008 issue)?

This servo seems like a monster, even compared to the RX-64.

Jim, are you planning on creating brackets for these? I can imagine these things easily taking out a finger… or two… :smiling_imp:

um, what is an HS100?

It’s some monster servo from Hitec. Supposedly, the rated torque is 100kg-cm… Can you imagine building a biped out of that?

Here are the specifications…

Well Hitec just now sent me the info. It’s going to be October for these, and I don’t know the cost yet. The only thing that bother me is the +/- 40Ćƒā€šĆ‚Ā° travel it’s listing. When I get a sample I will see if it can do more range. Yeah I would make brackets for these. 8)

BAD@$$ Jim 8)

Sounds nice  what scale of servo are these? And about how much would these cost?

The scale is in the specs Jim posted I believe (didn’t glance at them yet), and the cost is unknown at the moment.

They are roughly the size of an HS-805. Taller though. 8)

I thought the magazine stated 140 degrees of travel, but the +/- 40 degrees (from the spec sheet) is kinda limiting… I hope they work that out for the travel to be 180 degrees of travel…

This servo is a monster of a servo. Can you imagine 18 of these in a hexy?

I would like to put those on a biped, a giant one. But i wonder what the power/speed is at 13.6V (MAX)…

The spec sheet was linked a few posts up… The test voltage is listed at 12.0V, with a speed of .15s/60° at no load.

Check out the spec sheet.

They stall at 14A, yet they are still using 22AWG wire???

LOL. The question becomes if the wire melts the solder joint and it opens or the MOSFETs self-destruct 1st. :smiling_imp:

Hehe I was talking to the owner of Hitec. He said the specs sheets is not completely accurate. The servo will be available in many different configurations, and certainly will be able to move 180Ćƒā€šĆ‚Ā°. I’m on the short list for samples to be delivered as soon as they are available. I’m sure the wire size is one of the inaccurate items.

Yeah I saw that too… 14 amps is kinda tought to find a controller taht will be able to control more than 2-3 of these beasts.

hehe, at my work, things still in development are watermarked with ā€œpreliminary.ā€ Once marked with that word, we can get away with almost anything!
