Help! Can't connect SSC-32 card

hello fellow UK citizen,

informative post. i knew straight away you’d get in the good books for this.
anyway.

i believe you can get in contact with active and explain the problems. they may replace it with out further thought but you may need to request they that contact jim to confirm the replacement.
but before this i’ll ask you:

-Are you using the db9 cable direct to your PC or are you using any USB adapter?
-Have you tried using a different com port?
-you can also try checking the jumpers. might be faulty~?

Do you have a friends computer you can plug this into? Do you know anyone that has an older computer with a com port so you can bypass the a usb cable and go directly into a com port? You might even be able to head down to a local college, library, or school and use one of their computers.

It would be nice to rule out the usb cable and the computer to be sure it’s the board.

sounds like that rules out a USB adapter. The LED blinking when daa is sent indicates the cable is functioning. Mismatched baud rates is the usual cause.

-Are you using the db9 cable direct to your PC or are you using any USB adapter?
I tried both of them, but they have the same problem.
-Have you tried using a different com port?
Yes, I tried using COM2/COM8…
-you can also try checking the jumpers. might be faulty~?
I removed the VL=VS1 jumper.

I tried using different computers and differet OS, and I have a DB9 cable to go directly into a com port.
But the problem persists… :frowning:

As the image1 shows, I set the baud rate=115200.
And I tried using different baud rate, the problem persists.

If the MAX232 chip is bad, then the SSC-32 board could be considered to be bad, since this component is not socketed. The MAX232 chip is a communications interface device and it’s possible it could be defective which is why the LED blinks but nothing happens, regardless of baud rate settings used.

I would do as Jonny (innerbreed) suggested to send the board back and get a replacement.

Yes I still maintain he needs a new SSC-32. Contact the good people at active and I will do the same…

We will get you going.

Thank you very much. I have contacted the active-robot , but havn’t received a response yet.

I will contact them today, but I’m going to need more information. I can’t go to Active Robots and say yellowfish needs a new controller. :unamused: Send me an email with your info.

oh go on jim that would be funny. lol
yellowfish, good luck and i hope the problem gets sorted for you.

yellowfish, may the force be with you… always.

What is your email address? I can’t find it in your profile…
I got a reply from active-robot. It let me send the controller board for testing.
