Green light is not on, what is the problem?

Hi everyone, I’m trying to connect as Step 19 in lynxmotion.com/images/html/build40d.htm

I connected without the 9dvc battery in the picture and everything else is the same, but I see nothing lighting up on the board, which is supposed to happen?

Has the 9vdc battery have to be there to work?

Right now when I open the Lynx SSC-32 Terminal and enter “ver” and enter there is no response.

Also, the Lynx SSC-32 Terminal has COM1,COM3 andCOM4 to select, without the COM 5 which is shown in the Figure 20 in the webpage I cited, does that matter?

Please give me some help!

Thanks very much!

That’s a very vague description of the problem you have.
Note: the led is not a power on indicator. It flashes when the board receives data.

Check your baud rate and that you are connected to the right com port and that the same port is selected in the software.
Your com port doesn’t have to be port 5. That’s only an example.
Also double check your jumper connections and that the battery is good.

Hi Jonny, thanks very much for your help! So basically as I assume first the power cord and the 9vds battery may not be needed at the same time, so I don’t have the battery at all. So do you think the battery has to be there for the light to be on?

Also I removed the VL=VS1 jumper (as instructed at step 16 at lynxmotion.com/images/html/build40d.htm), is that correct?

Thank you very much again!!

The 9v powers the board.
The 6v power cord powers the servos.

Both are needed.
Make sure you remove the VL=VS1 jumper. This will isolate the servos’ power from the microcontroller’s power and will prevent the SSC-32 from “browning out”.
