Extending serial port from SSC-32

Hey everyone,

I’m reconfiguring Kodama and I’m hoping to extend the serial port from the SSC-32, since the way the bot is configured it is inaccessible without removing the robot’s head (see attached pic). As such, there isn’t room for a normal serial extender (those suckers are huge).

My question is, which pins of the serial port are actually used? Would it be possible for me to extend it myself using thinner wire and make a port for it on the back of the bot?

Im not sure what pins are important. Think its 1-4 but could be wrong…

Is a nice idea. You could also just attach a small Bluetooth unit to the DB9.
Or simply mod a motherboard cable… there very low profile…

Is there the option of rotating the board 180 degrees so it faces the rear? If not, then try to get a small connector and solder wires to it.

I wish there was. Unfortunately the power section has to be in the back to match up with with the switch and battery etc. It would be possible to change, but it would truly be a nightmare and require complete disassembly of my bot.

Happen to know the pins needed from the serial port? If I didn’t have to solder all 9, it might be thin enough without a ribbon cable.

Servo wire (or any other flexable wire) with three conductors (tx/rx/gnd) should be all you need.

Sweet, I’ll try that!
