I received my lynxmotion shipment the other day. I held off playing with the atom pro 28 and and ABB since I had another controller. Got fed up with the other controller for the time being as I think my motor control solution isn’t working.
Anyway, I just want to program my atom pro 28 and I have been using the sharp IR detector algorithm another poster showed on another thread.
I’m using the software that came with my shipment, I am using a USB2 to serial port converter (it’s on COM3, I’m pretty sure everything in that regard is set up). Power light on the ABB is lit as are the button LEDs when I press them. It just that when I try to go into debug mode or go to preferences -> find atom, nothing happens.
I assume you’ve tried programming as well with no luck. If no communications are working I’d suspect the USB to Serial adapter. The Atom/AtomPro modules require RTS/DTR to work on the serial port. Not all USB to Serial adapters do that and some that do don’t update the states of RTS/DTR fast enough so the Atom/AtomPro doesn’t get a correct reset and hence won’t get into programming mode.
P.S. We(BasicMicro) recommend the BAFO BF-810 USB to serial adapter. I have never had problems with it and have never had any customers tell me they’ve had problems with it. You can find it online from $17 USD.
My computer has USB 2.0, will this work with the one you mentioned, the web pages detailing the cable say it is USB 1.1 compliant. Are USB 2.0 ports backward compatable with USB 1.1 etc?
My computer is about 11 months old and all it has are USB ports.
Mike, have you tried a different pc? I don’t get it. You sure you are selecting the proper com port?
I wish I could help you more but I don’t have an ABB yet.
If you have anything connected to the ABB, I would un hook it all and just try to get the abb working. Isolate the ABB first, and then see what happens.
I’d say, if you can’t get the Atom to connect on another computer that the odds are good the Atom module or the ABB board has a problem. Cal Lynxmotion to arrange returning it for a replacement. Jim can test the returned board/Atom to confirm thats the problem.
One other thing. Make sure you are using the AtomPro IDE and not the Atom IDE. It’s possible you got the wrong software CD. If so you can download the AtomPro software from www.basicmicro.com.
I hooked up the ABB to my dad’s laptop, and it immediately recognized the chip. Programmed it to read in a sharp PIR and it worked dandy. Thus, my chip and ABB are fine (I’ve got the right software too).
The problem seems to be my usb-serial adapter. Has anyone experienced the same problem, and if so, how have they fixed it? Acid, do you know of a recent driver for the BAFO (the BAFO uses the same exact driver as the adapter I used prior)? The thing talks fine to all my other serial devices including an Eyecon.
I guess I can get a PCI serial port card from jameco or something, but I’m sick of shelling out money for shipping, hehe.
